لاmay ... not أوحشَleave me bereft اللَهGod ممنof the one whom لمnot أزلI cease أبداًever
لا أوحشَ اللَه ممن لم أزل أبداً
أراهI see him عنديbeside me وإنand even though شَطَّتgrew distant بهwith him الدارُthe dwelling
أراه عندي وإن شَطَّت به الدارُ
May God never leave me bereft of the one I have always
I am never lonesome though you are away
Seen beside me, though his dwelling has taken him far away.
I see you with me wherever I stray
ولستُand I am not أعجبُI marvel إلاexcept منat إقامتهِhis dwelling
ولستُ أعجبُ إلا من إقامتهِ
فيin باطنٍan inner self حَشوُهُits contents لماwhen نأىhe went far away نارُfire
في باطنٍ حَشوُهُ لما نأى نارُ
And I marvel only at his dwelling
What fills me with wonder is how you can dwell
In a heart whose core, since he went away, is fire.
In a heart so unworthy, and love it so well
