أُصببْpour عَلىupon قَلبِكَyour heart مِنsome of بَردِهاits coolness
إِنّيindeed I أَرىsee الناسَpeople يَموتوناthey are dying
Pour some of its coolness over your heart;
Pour some of its coolness upon your heart;
Pour its coolness upon your heart,
for I see that people are dying.
Indeed, I see people dying.
For indeed, I see people dying.
وَدَعand leave alone أُناساًsome people كَرِهواthey disliked شُربَهاdrinking it
لَيسواthey are not بِماof what فيin الخَمرwine يَدروناthey know
Pay no mind to those who loathe drinking it—
And leave alone those who disliked drinking it;
And forsake the people who loathe drinking it,
they know nothing of what lies within wine.
They do not know what is in wine.
For they know not what lies within wine.
لَوif شَرِبوهاthey drank it فَأنتَشواand then they grew tipsy مَرَّةًonce
لأَصبَحواthey would surely become بِالخَمرِabout wine يَهذوناthey rave
Had they drunk it and felt its exhilaration just once,
Had they drunk it and grown tipsy once,
If they drank it and became intoxicated but once,
they would have awakened raving about wine.
They would have raved about wine.
They would awaken deliriously raving about wine.
وَقَدand indeed عَهِدتُI have known النَّاسَpeople إِذwhen دهرُهُمtheir age
دَهرٌan age يَلوطونَthey practice sodomy وَيَزنوناand they fornicate
I have known people in an age when their times
And I have known people when their age
And I have known people when their era
were times of sodomy and fornication.
Was an age when they practiced sodomy and fornicated.
Was an age where they sodomize and fornicate.
