وَلا ما سَقانا من ركيَّتِهِ سَعدُ
For the All-Merciful has not forbidden ʿAjwa dates,
What the Merciful forbade not of luscious dates,
The Merciful never forbade the Ajwa dates,
Nor what Saʿd gave us to drink from his well.
Nor the wine He gave us from his generosity to drink,
Nor what Sa'd gave us to drink from his well.

When both are put into the wine jar, from them is drawn
When both are cast into the bowl, there comes forth
When both are cast into the cask, they yield
A drink that delights the eye with its rose-red appearance.
A beverage, sight of which delights the eye like a rose.
A rosy drink whose sight delights the eye.

We begin taking the cup early, until it is as though we
Maidens take up the goblets till it seems as though
We rise early to take up the cup, until it seems as if we
See, in the forenoon, the ropes of our tent running.
We see at dawn the tent-ropes of our camp marching on.
See the ropes of our tent running away in the mid-morning.
