إذا ذاق طَعمَ المَنعِ يَسخو وَيُكرُمُ
You should deprive the ignoble man; perhaps,
Deny the lowly their desire, perchance
when he tastes denial, he will grow generous and noble.
Once tasting prohibition's bitter taste they yet may learn to be generous and kind.

متى يُحرَمُوا يَوماً يَصولوا ويغرموا
And do not deprive the noble folk, for they
But do not stint the noble overmuch, for when
will attack and exact payment if ever deprived for a day.
Denied but once, they rage and commit outrage.
