مَن ظَنَّ أنَّ العُلا بالمالِ يجمَعُهُ

مَن ظَنَّ أنَّ العُلا بالمالِ يجمَعُهُ

فاعلَمْ بأنَّ غِناهُ فَقرُهُ أبَدا

فاعلَمْ بأنَّ غِناهُ فَقرُهُ أبَدا

Whoever thinks he gains eminence through wealth,

Whoever thinks that wealth brings honor

then know that his wealth is forever his poverty.

Know that his riches are endless poverty

فاستَغْنِ بالعِلمِ والتَّقوى وكُنْ رَجلاً

فاستَغْنِ بالعِلمِ والتَّقوى وكُنْ رَجلاً

لا يَرتَجي غيرَ رزّاقِ الوَرى أحَدا

لا يَرتَجي غيرَ رزّاقِ الوَرى أحَدا

So find sufficiency in knowledge and piety, and be a man

So be content with knowledge and piety

who places his hope in no one but the Provider of humankind.

And be a man who hopes in none but the Sustainer of the worlds
