قُلْsay للوَزيرto the vizier الذيwho أضحَتْhave become خلائِقُهُhis virtues
قُلْ للوَزير الذي أضحَتْ خلائِقُهُ
كأنَّهاas though they were مُستعاراتٌborrowed منfrom المَلَكِthe angel
كأنَّها مُستعاراتٌ من المَلَكِ
Say to the vizier whose virtues now seem
Tell the minister, whose qualities
as though borrowed from an angel:
Seem borrowed from an angel,
قَدْرُthe measure الرَّجاءِof hope وإنْand even if جلَّتْare great مقادِرُهُits measures
قَدْرُ الرَّجاءِ وإنْ جلَّتْ مقادِرُهُ
فيماin comparison with what وهبْتَyou bestowed كقَدْرِlike the measure of الأرضِthe earth فيin الفَلَكِthe celestial sphere
فيما وهبْتَ كقَدْرِ الأرضِ في الفَلَكِ
The measure of hope, however great its extent,
Though great his power and hopes sublime,
beside what you have bestowed, is like the earth’s size in the celestial sphere.
How small is earth against the sky's expanse.
