Sol 6.1

  1. توكَّلْ على الله في كُلِّ

    ما تحاولُهُ واتَّخِذْهُ وَكيلا

    Rely on God in all

    That you undertake, and take Him as your guardian.

  2. ولا يَخْدعَنَّكَ شِرْبٌ صفَا

    فأظما قليلا وأروى غليلا

    And do not be deceived by a draught that ran clear,

    Then caused a little thirst and quenched a burning thirst.

  3. فإنَّ الزَّمانَ يَذِلُّ العَزيزَ

    ويجعَلُ كُلَّ جَليلٍ ضَئيلا

    For time humbles the mighty

    And makes every great one insignificant.

  4. ألم ترَ ناصِرَ دينِ الإلهِ

    وكانَ المَهيبَ العَظيمَ الجَليلا

    Did you not see the Defender of God's Faith,

    Who was awe-inspiring, mighty, and majestic?

  5. أعدَّ الفُيولَ وقادَ الخُيولَ

    وصيَّرَ كُلَّ عزيزٍ ذليلا

    He readied the elephants and led the horses,

    And brought every mighty man low.

  6. وحفَّ الملوكُ بهِ خاضِعين

    وزُفُّوا إليه رعيلاً رعيلا

    And kings surrounded him in submission,

    And were brought before him, troop after troop.

  7. فلّما تمكّنَ من أمرِهِ

    وكان لهُ الشَّرقُ إلاّ قليلا

    Then, when he had secured his rule,

    And all but a little of the East was his,

  8. وأوهَمهُ العِزُّأنَّ الزَّمانَ

    إذا رامَهُ نَدَّ عنهُ كليلا

    And might deluded him into thinking that Time,

    Whenever it assailed him, would recoil from him blunted—

  9. كذلِكَ يفعلُ بالشّامتينَ

    ويَفنيهمُ الدَّهرُ جيلاً فجيلا

    Thus does it deal with those who gloat,

    And Time destroys them, generation after generation—

  10. أتتْهُ المَنِيَّةُ مُغتالَةً

    وسلَّتْ عليهِ حُساماً صَقيلا

    Death came upon him, striking by stealth,

    And drew a keen, polished sword against him.

  11. فلْم يُغنِ عنهُ كُماةُ الرِّجال

    ولم يُجدِ فيلٌ عَليهِ فَتيلا

    So the champions among men availed him nothing,

    Nor did an elephant help him even a thread's worth.
