وَبلَّand soaked بِالدَّمعِwith tears أرْدانيmy sleeves وَأرْدْانيand laid me low
Parting revealed my sorrows and grieved me.
Separation made clear my passions and my passions
And soaked my sleeves with tears and laid me low.
And brought tears flowing down my cheeks and my cheeks
لمdid not يَكفِنيsuffice me أنْthat أذابَmelted الدَّمْعtears إنسانسunclear as written; likely my eye's pupil
وخَصَّنيand singled me out بَمَلامِfor the reproach of كُلِّevery إنسانِperson
It was not enough that tears melted [my eye's pupil],
My tears melting have not sufficed me
And singled me out for every person's reproach.
And I was distinguished with the blame of every human

وقدand already مضىpassed ليfor me فيamid العُمْرانِsettled lands عُمرانِtwo lifetimes
I remained, while tears folded me up and unfolded me.
I lingered while tears enfolded me and spread me
And two lifetimes have already passed for me amid settled lands.
And a lifetime in civilization has passed me

وقدand already مضىpassed ليfor me فيamid العُمْرانِsettled lands عُمْرانtwo lifetimes
Among the homelands, my own lie in ruins.
Of ruins, of homelands, my homelands
And two lifetimes have already passed for me amid settled lands.
And a lifetime in civilization has passed
فرحتُI rejoiced بلْrather مضىpassed عُمرٌa lifetime فدَعْso leave off عَذْليreproaching me

I rejoiced—rather, a lifetime has passed; so stop reproaching me.
I was glad no, a lifetime passed, so cease blaming me
For reproach, if it passes by the ears, hurts me.
For blame, if it passes by ears, my ears hear it

I have a gathering whose splendor delights those who behold it.
I have a sitting that gladdens the beholders in its joy
And I have two sweet boon companions from Hulwan.
And I have two boon companions of sweet, sweet boon companions

And the cup goes round, and its redness clothes the cheek.
The cup circulates and tints the cheek with its redness
And the two arms that thrust with ashwood spears are bitter.
And arms adept in piercing with the lances, lances
لاnot يحضرانthey both bring up امَرأa man عنديin my presence بَمنقَصةٍwith a fault

They never mention a man disparagingly in my presence,
They do not attend upon me with any shortcoming
Nor do they restrain me when my two hands give freely.
Nor when hands are generous, my hands fail me

When I look at al-Dahhak, he makes me laugh,
When I look upon the laughing one, he makes me laugh
And when I look at Hayyan, he greets me.
And when I look upon the living one, he gives me life

And an envious man, deceived by my distance, threatened me;
And an envier whom my distance deluded, so he threatened me
And if the two lands drew near, he would appease me.
Even if the two lands were brought together, my two lands
