ياذا الّذي ألْهاُ عاجِلُ لَهوِهِ

ياذا الّذي ألْهاُ عاجِلُ لَهوِهِ

عَن دَرسِهِ فحكى البَهائَم هائما

عَن دَرسِهِ فحكى البَهائَم هائما

O you whom your present amusement has distracted

O you who is distracted from your lessons by your urgent frivolity

From your studies, so you resemble the beasts, wandering aimlessly:

And tells of grazing beasts wandering blindly

اسِْهَدْ إذا ما كُنتَ تَبغي رِفْعَةً

اسِْهَدْ إذا ما كُنتَ تَبغي رِفْعَةً

يَوماً ولا تَبغِ الغَنائم نائمِا

يَوماً ولا تَبغِ الغَنائم نائمِا

Stay awake if you seek eminence

Be alert when you seek elevation one day

Someday, and do not seek spoils while asleep.
