ياO مَنْyou who أراهُI see him يَمتريdoubts بمَودَّتيabout my affection
ماnot مُنصفٌa fair-minded person فيماin what يُحبُّhe loves بمُمْتَريa doubter
O you whom I see doubting my affection,
O you whom I see striding with my affection
No fair-minded man doubts what he loves.
No fair in what one loves with a bargainer
إنْif كنتَyou were قدalready أُبلغِتَyou were told عَنِّيabout me سَيِّئاًsomething bad
فالذَّنبُthen the blame فيهِfor it للكَذوبِwith the habitual liar المُفتريthe slanderer
If you have been told something bad about me,
If you have been told evil of me
Then the blame for it lies with the slanderous liar.
The blame is on the lying slanderer
أوor خَيَّلُواthey made it seem لكَto you أنَّthat عهديَmy pledge أبترٌcut short
فالحُرُّfor the noble man لاnot يرضىis content بعَهدٍwith a pledge أبترِcut short
Or if they led you to think my pledge was cut short,
Or they imagined for you that my pact is maimed
For a noble man is not content with a pledge cut short.
But the free never accepts a maimed pact
طَبعيmy nature كطبعِlike the nature of المُشتَريJupiter ماnot فيهِin it منany
شَرٍّevil فهلْso, is there منany مُشتَرٍa buyer للمُشتريfor Jupiter
My nature is like Jupiter's: it contains no
My nature is like the buyer's nature no evil in it
Evil—so is there a buyer for Jupiter?
Is there a buyer for the buyer?
