يا أكثر النّاسِ إحساناً إلى النّاسِ

يا أكثر النّاسِ إحساناً إلى النّاسِ

وأحسنَ النّاسِ إغضاءً عنِ النّاسِ

وأحسنَ النّاسِ إغضاءً عنِ النّاسِ

O you who show people more kindness than anyone,

O you who show more kindness to people than anyone else,

And who surpass all people in overlooking people’s faults,

And are best of all at overlooking people's faults,

نسيتُ عهدَكَ والنِّسيانُ مُغْتَفَرٌ

نسيتُ عهدَكَ والنِّسيانُ مُغْتَفَرٌ

فاغفِرْ فأوَّلُ ناسٍ أوَّلُ النّاسِ

فاغفِرْ فأوَّلُ ناسٍ أوَّلُ النّاسِ

I forgot your pledge—and forgetfulness may be forgiven;

I forgot my pledge to you, and forgetfulness is forgivable;

So forgive: the first to forget was the first of humankind.

So forgive me, for the first to forget was the first of humankind.
