أيُّها الخاطِبونَ شُكْراً كَريماً

أيُّها الخاطِبونَ شُكْراً كَريماً

أينَ أنتُمْ عن مَهْرِ شُكْرٍ كَريمِ

أينَ أنتُمْ عن مَهْرِ شُكْرٍ كَريمِ

O you who court noble gratitude,

O you who give speeches, many thanks

Where do you stand regarding noble gratitude's dower?

Where are you in terms of generous gratitude?

قَدَّموا البِرَّ تستفيدوا مِنَ الشُّكْ

قَدَّموا البِرَّ تستفيدوا مِنَ الشُّكْ

رِ كِفاءً لِذَلكَ التَّقديمِ

رِ كِفاءً لِذَلكَ التَّقديمِ

Offer kindness first, and you will gain from grati-

Offer righteousness, you will benefit from gratitude

tude a fitting recompense for that offering.

As recompense for that offering

أوَلَمْ تُبصِروا إلى الأرضِ تُسقى

أوَلَمْ تُبصِروا إلى الأرضِ تُسقى

ثمَّ تهتَزُّ بالنَّباتِ العَميمِ

ثمَّ تهتَزُّ بالنَّباتِ العَميمِ

And have you not seen the earth being watered,

Have you not seen the earth being watered

Then stirring with abundant vegetation?

Then it shakes with abundant vegetation?

وافَيْتُ سُدَّتَهُ لَحماً على وَضَمٍ

وافَيْتُ سُدَّتَهُ لَحماً على وَضَمٍ

وصِرْتُ مِن عندِهِ ناراً على عَلَمِ

وصِرْتُ مِن عندِهِ ناراً على عَلَمِ

I came to his threshold, flesh upon a butcher's block,

I came to him as a guest and he honored me

And emerged from his presence, a fire upon a mountain.

And I left him as burning fire on dry wood
