O Abu al-Qasim, you have enslaved my affection with past bounty,

Followed by fresh kindness from you, without reminders of your favors.

And you weakened my thanks when you doubled your favors,

And ever-increasing dew may weaken plants.

A letter came to me from you, containing rare treasures,

Rare treasures whose very edges are kissed.

A page of kindness, before whose beauty fall

The other pages in prostration whenever they behold it.

So through it, kindly youth renewed its bond with me,

And through it a favorable time dawned upon me.

And my fate became just, though it had been oppressive,

And its wind turned gentle, though it had been stormy.
