إنَّindeed الّذيthe one who مرَّpassed بِناby us مُسرِعاًswiftly
إنَّ الّذي مرَّ بِنا مُسرِعاً
فيin يَدِهِhis hand غُصنٌa sprig منَof الآسِmyrtle
في يَدِهِ غُصنٌ منَ الآسِ
Indeed, he who hurried past us—
Indeed, the one who passed swiftly by us
in his hand is my fortress against adversity.

لاdo not تنسَforget عَهديmy pledge فيin الهوىlove قالِياًwhile spurning
لا تنسَ عَهدي في الهوى قالِياً
فلستُfor I am not بالقاليone who spurns ولاnor النّاسيone who forgets
فلستُ بالقالي ولا النّاسي
Do not forget my pledge in love, though you shun me;
Do not forget my pledge in love out of disdain,
for I will neither survive nor forget.

قدindeed ذُبْتُI have melted منfrom حُبِّكَlove for you حتَّىso much that لقدindeed
قد ذُبْتُ من حُبِّكَ حتَّى لقد
خَشِيتُI feared أنْthat أخفىI become unseen علىto الناسِpeople
خَشِيتُ أنْ أخفى على الناسِ
I have melted away for love of you—so much so that
I have melted from love for you, so much that, indeed,
I feared I might become invisible to people.
