If you show kindness only to a grateful person
who regards thanks for what you bestow on him as an everlasting duty,
نُفِيتَyou are banished عنfrom الإحسانِbenevolence وَهْوَand it is فَضيلَةٌa virtue
يحوزُgains بِهْاthrough it الإنسانُa person مَجداًglory وسُؤْدُداand eminence
you are barred from benevolence, though it is a virtue
through which a person gains glory and eminence.
وذاكَand that لأنَّbecause النَّاسَpeople إلاّexcept أقلَّهُمْa few of them
إذاif شكَروكَاليَومَthey thank you today لمnot يَشكُرُواthey give thanks غَداtomorrow
And that is because people, save a few of them,
if they thank you today, will not thank you tomorrow.
