إذا قنِعْتَ بمَيسورٍ منَ القُوتِ

بَقيتَ في النّاسِ حُرّاً غَيرَ مَمْقوتِ

بَقيتَ في النّاسِ حُرّاً غَيرَ مَمْقوتِ

If you are content with the sustenance at hand,

If you're content with little sustenance

You remain free among people, not despised.

You'll stay a free man, not despised

ياقوتَ يَومي إذا مادَرَّ خَلْفُكَ لي

ياقوتَ يَومي إذا مادَرَّ خَلْفُكَ لي

فلَسْتُ آسى على دُرٍّ وياقوتِ

فلَسْتُ آسى على دُرٍّ وياقوتِ

O my daily sustenance, if your teat yields milk for me,

My daily ruby, if your like ignores me

Then I do not grieve over pearls and rubies.

I won't grieve over gems and rubies
