إذا أنا لم أمدُدْ إلى بِرِّكُمْ يَدي

إذا أنا لم أمدُدْ إلى بِرِّكُمْ يَدي

ولم تَتَشَوَّفْ نحوَ مَعروفِكُم نُفسي

ولم تَتَشَوَّفْ نحوَ مَعروفِكُم نُفسي

If I do not stretch out my hand for your kindness,

If I do not extend my hand to your righteousness

And my soul does not yearn for your favor,

And my soul does not yearn for your kindness

وكنتُمْ كمِثلي ثمَّ جسمي كجسمِكُمْ

وكنتُمْ كمِثلي ثمَّ جسمي كجسمِكُمْ

فلِمْ أغتدي عبداً لِمَنْ هُو مِن جنسي

فلِمْ أغتدي عبداً لِمَنْ هُو مِن جنسي

And you are like me; moreover, my body is like yours,

And you were like me, then my body like your bodies

Then why should I become a slave to one of my own kind?

Why then should I be enslaved to one of my own kind?
