كتبْتُ فلم يُجِبْني عن كِتابي

فأهَّلْني لتسريحِ الجَوابِ

I wrote, but he did not reply to my letter.

I wrote to him, but no reply came back

So deem me worthy of a reply sent forth.

So I prodded him for an answer

تُرِحْني بالإجابَةِ من هُمومٍ

تُرِحْني بالإجابَةِ من هُمومٍ

أحاطَتْ من تَباريحِ الجَوى بي

أحاطَتْ من تَباريحِ الجَوى بي

By answering, you will relieve me of cares

Please put my anxiety to rest

That have surrounded me because of longing’s torments.

With a response that soothes my weary soul
