فهِمْتُ كتابَكَ يا سيِّدي

فهِمْتُ كتابَكَ يا سيِّدي

فهِمْتُ ولا عجبٌ أنْ أهيما

فهِمْتُ ولا عجبٌ أنْ أهيما

I understood your letter, O my master.

I understood your book, my master

I understood—and no wonder that I should be enraptured.

I understood and it's no wonder that I became enraptured

وذاكَ لأنِّي تأملْتُ مِن

وذاكَ لأنِّي تأملْتُ مِن

هُ دُرّاً نظيماً وبِرّاً عَظيماً

هُ دُرّاً نظيماً وبِرّاً عَظيماً

And that is because I beheld within

And that is because I contemplated therein

it well-strung pearls and great kindness.

Pearls well-ordered and righteous deeds great

وصادَفْتُهُ صدَفاً للعُلو

وصادَفْتُهُ صدَفاً للعُلو

مِ ضمّنَ مِنها البَديعَ اليَتيما

مِ ضمّنَ مِنها البَديعَ اليَتيما

And I found it an oyster shell for the sciences,

And I found it a shell for ascent

enclosing their wondrous, peerless pearl.

Containing therein the orphaned wonders
