أرىI see النّاسَthe people قدindeed سَنُّواthey made customary عِيادَةَvisiting the sick كُلِّevery مَنْone who
بهِin him مرضٌan illness والجِسمُand the body يؤذَىis harmed ويُكْلَمُand is wounded
I see that people have made it customary to visit anyone
I see that people have made it customary to visit everyone
who is ill, whose body is afflicted.
who is ill, and whose body is harmed and wounded.
وقدand indeed عطَّلواthey neglected مرضىthose sick النُّفوسِthe souls وأغفَلُواand they disregarded
حقوقَهُمْtheir rights والحَقُّand the duty أولىmore deserving وألزَمُand more binding
Yet they have neglected those sick in soul, and disregarded
Yet they have neglected those sick in soul and disregarded
their due—though that right is worthier and more binding.
their rights, though that duty takes precedence and is more binding.
ولوand if أنصَفُواthey were fair عادُوهُمthey would visit them وتَرحمَّواand they would show compassion
علَيهِمْtoward them فإنَّfor indeed النَّفسَthe soul أعلىloftier وأكْرَمُand nobler
Had they been just, they would have visited them and shown compassion
And if they were fair, they would visit them and show compassion
toward them, for the soul is higher and nobler.
toward them, for the soul is loftier and nobler.
