I praise my Lord for a light
Ahmad is my Lord, from whom I drew light
That I drew from the darkness of calamities.
In the darkness of calamities.

I stayed at the kings’ door for a long time,
I frequented the gates of kings for a time,
Yet their water never reached my bucket.
But my sins did not attract their waters.

And how often they invited me to high stations
How often did they invite me to stables,
Toward which the longing of hearts inclines.
To which the passions of hearts incline!

So I guarded my honor and spoke words,
But I protected my honor and spoke outright,
Plain, not muddled:
Without any ambiguity:
لاdo not تلزمونيmake me bear ذنوبَthe sins of غيريanyone other than me
حسبيenough for me كسبيwhat I earn منof الذهنوبthe sins (apparently a typo for الذنوب)
Do not make me bear the sins of others;
"Do not oblige me with the sins of others-
The sins I earn myself are enough for me.
My own sins are enough for me!"
