رضِيتُI was content بعَيشٍwith a livelihood كَفافٍsufficient for basic needs حَلالٍlawful
رضِيتُ بعَيشٍ كَفافٍ حَلالٍ
وبِعْتُand I sold المُدامَwine بماءٍfor water زُلالِpure
وبِعْتُ المُدامَ بماءٍ زُلالِ
I am content with a lawful life of simple sufficiency;
I am content with a lawful livelihood that suffices,
I traded wine for pure, limpid water.
And I have traded wine for pure water.
فَمنْso whoever كانَwas يحلُوtastes sweet لهُto him ماwhat يُصيِبُhe acquires
فَمنْ كانَ يحلُو لهُ ما يُصيِبُ
حَراماًunlawfully فإنَّthen indeed حلاليmy lawful sustenance حَلاtasted sweet ليto me
حَراماً فإنَّ حلالي حَلا لي
Whoever may relish whatever he gains
So if someone finds sweetness in what he gains
unlawfully—my lawful fare tastes sweet to me.
Unlawfully, then my lawful sustenance is sweet to me.
