مواعيدُهُ في الوَصلِ أحلامُ نائمٍ

مواعيدُهُ في الوَصلِ أحلامُ نائمٍ

أشبِّهُها بالقَفرِ أو بسَرابِهِ

أشبِّهُها بالقَفرِ أو بسَرابِهِ

His promises of union are a sleeper’s dreams;

I liken them to the wasteland, or to its mirage.

فَمنْ لي بوَجٍ لو تَحَيَّرَ في الدُّجى

فَمنْ لي بوَجٍ لو تَحَيَّرَ في الدُّجى

أخو سَفَرٍ في لَيلِ غَيمٍ سرى بِهِ

أخو سَفَرٍ في لَيلِ غَيمٍ سرى بِهِ

Who, then, will grant me a [face], such that, if lost in darkness,

a traveler on a cloudy night could journey by its light?
