جُدْbe generous بالقَليلِwith a little إذاwhen تعذَّرَis unobtainable غيرُهُanything else
واسعَدْand rejoice بِبِكرِin the virgin ones of مدائحيmy praise-poems والثَّيَّبِand the once-wed
Be generous with a little when nothing else is possible.
Be content with little, if you can't get more,
And rejoice in my praise-poems, virgin and once-wed alike.
Be happy with the virgin song I sing your praise,
واعلَمْand know بأنَّthat الغَيْمَthe cloud يمنَحُbestows طَلَّهُits light rain
إنْif لْمnot يَجُدْgive generously بِغياثِwith the relief of وَبْلٍa downpour صَيِّبِpouring
And know that the cloud bestows its light rain
Know clouds grant their sought rain,
if it does not lavish the relief of a pouring downpour.
If no downpour or rain soaked the land,
وإذاand when عدِمْتَyou lack الماءَwater بعدَafter طِلابِهِseeking it
جارَwent astray التَّيَمُّمُdry ablution بالصَّعيدِwith the earth الطَّيِّبِpure
And when you find no water after seeking it,
If after searching you lack water,
Then dry ablution with pure earth is permitted [reading the apparent typo جارَ, “went astray,” as جازَ, “is permitted”].
Purification with clean dust will do.
