ولَّماand when تتابَعَcame in succession صَرفُthe vicissitudes الزَّمانِof time
ولَّما تتابَعَ صَرفُ الزَّمانِ
فزِعْناwe sought refuge إلىwith سَيِّدٍa lord نابِهِeminent
فزِعْنا إلى سَيِّدٍ نابِهِ
And when the vicissitudes of time came in succession,
When the turns of time follow one another,
we sought refuge with an eminent lord.
We take refuge in a lord with sharp teeth.
إذاwhenever كشَّرَbared الدَّهرُtime عنfrom نابِهِits fang
إذا كشَّرَ الدَّهرُ عن نابِهِ
كشَفْناwe warded off الحوادِثَcalamities عَنّاfrom us بِهِthrough him
كشَفْنا الحوادِثَ عَنّا بِهِ
Whenever time bared its fang,
When the days bare their teeth,
through him we warded off calamities from ourselves.
We shield ourselves from misfortunes through him.
