ومن عجَبٍ أتيتُكَ شافِعاً

ومن عجَبٍ أتيتُكَ شافِعاً

لِغَيري وبي فَقْرٌ إلى ألفِ شافِعِ

لِغَيري وبي فَقْرٌ إلى ألفِ شافِعِ

And it is a wonder that I came to you as an intercessor

And how strange that I’ve come pleading

for another, while I myself need a thousand intercessors.

for others when I am utterly without support

ولكِنَّ أحرارَ الرِّجالِ وإن جُفوا

ولكِنَّ أحرارَ الرِّجالِ وإن جُفوا

فشيمَتُهُمْ أنْ يسمَحوا بالمنافِع

فشيمَتُهُمْ أنْ يسمَحوا بالمنافِع

But noble men, even when treated coldly,

Yet free men, even if they’re harsh

have it in their nature to bestow benefits freely.

Have the nobility to allow others benefit
