ومَعشوقٍand a beloved يتيهُglories بوَجهِin a face عاجٍivory
ومَعشوقٍ يتيهُ بوَجهِ عاجٍ
كأنَّas though الصُّدْغَthe temple-lock خُطَّwas traced بِلامِwith a lām زاجِvitriol ink
كأنَّ الصُّدْغَ خُطَّ بِلامِ زاجِ
And a beloved who glories in his ivory face,
With a beloved, wandering a rigid face
As though his temple-lock were traced as a lām in vitriol ink.
As if his temples were traced with vivid wine
سقانيgave me to drink خَمرةٌwine منfrom مُقلَتَيْهِhis two eyes
سقاني خَمرةٌ من مُقلَتَيْهِ
وخَمرُand the wine المُقلتَيْنِof the two eyes بلاwithout مِزاجِadmixture
وخَمرُ المُقلتَيْنِ بلا مِزاجِ
He gave me wine to drink from his two eyes,
He made me drink a wine from his eyes
And the wine of the two eyes is unmixed.
And the wine of the two eyes is without dilution
