أخٌ يتشكّى سوءَ حالِكَ عندَه

أخٌ يتشكّى سوءَ حالِكَ عندَه

فيرجعُ عنهُ خائباً حالِكَ الظَّنِّ

فيرجعُ عنهُ خائباً حالِكَ الظَّنِّ

A brother complains of your sorry plight before him,

then returns from him disappointed, gloomy in expectation.

ولكِنَّني أمْري عواطِفَ مَنِّهِ

ولكِنَّني أمْري عواطِفَ مَنِّهِ

برِفْقٍ فبعضُ الشَّوكِ يسمَحُ بالمنِّ

برِفْقٍ فبعضُ الشَّوكِ يسمَحُ بالمنِّ

But I coax forth the stirrings of his bounty

gently, for some thornbushes yield manna.
