لسقيته رعيا ولكن بسلسل
And one athirst—if he were to give drink for a pledge’s sake,
And one of thirst—were he to be watered for the sake of a bond,
I would give him drink out of regard, but with a limpid draught.
I would have quenched him in observance, yet with cool, limpid water.

نسيم الصبا جاءت بريا القرنفل
When its fragrance wafts, I find the very essence
When its aroma wafts, I find it to be, in truth,
Of the east wind’s breeze, come bearing the scent of cloves.
The breeze of the East Wind bringing the fragrance of cloves.
