You have set up for us, barring reflection, O world,

    hopes—life ends before they do.

When will the needs of one ever end, who never fulfills

one need before he has another?

For each person, in what God has decreed, there is a state

of affairs in which slave and master are equal.

And indeed, a person who strives without end

is surely immersed in the deep sea of utter poverty.
