ماwhat لَكَwith you قَدalready حُلتَyou turned away عَنfrom إِخائِكَyour friendship وَاِسand— (beginning of 'exchanged')
تَبدَلتَyou exchanged (completing the split word) ياO عَمرُʿAmr شيمَةًa disposition كَدِرَهclouded
Why have you turned away from your friendship and
Why have you abandoned your brother and friend?
exchanged it for a clouded disposition, O ʿAmr?
Omar, you have changed your noble ways.
إِنّيindeed I إِذاwhen البابُthe door تاهَgrew haughty حاجِبُهُits doorkeeper
لَمnot يَكُwas عِنديwith me فيin هَجرِهِforsaking it نَظِرَهdelay
Indeed, when a door's keeper grows haughty,
When the eye of the door is gone,
I lose no time in forsaking it.
In his estrangement, I cannot see his gaze.
لَستُمyou are not تُرَجَّونَlooked to with hope لِلحِسابِfor the Reckoning وَلاnor
يَومَthe day تَكونُis السَماءُthe sky مُنفَطِرَهsplit apart
You are not looked to for the Reckoning, nor
You are not hoped for in reckoning, nor
for the day when the sky is split apart,
On the day when the sky is rent asunder.
لَكِنbut لَدُنياfor a world كَالظِلِّlike the shadow بَهجَتُهاits splendor

but for a world whose splendor is like a shadow,
But this world's joy is like a fleeting shadow,
quick to end, hastening away.
Swift to pass, rolled up in a bundle.

فَاليَومَbut today أَضحىhas become حَرفاًa letter مِنَof النَكِرَهthe unknown
My face was once familiar to you;
My face was once known to you,
but today it has become a letter of the unknown.
Today it has become one of the unknown.
