Whoever claims that he will conceal his love

Or can keep it hidden is an inveterate liar.

Love overwhelms men with too great a force

For secrecy to have any share in it.

And when a wise man's secret comes to light, surely it

Has appeared only when the young man is overcome.

Indeed, I envy a lover who keeps his passion guarded,

Whom neither eyes nor hearts have suspected.
