ماwhat حالَstate مَنone who سَكَنَsettled الثَرىthe earth ماwhat حالُهُhis state
أَمسىhe has become وَقَدand already قُطِعَتhave been severed هُناكَthere حِبالُهُhis bonds
What is the state of one who has settled in the earth—what is his state?
What is the state of one who dwells in the earth? What is his state?
He is now there, his bonds severed.
He spent the evening when over there his ropes were cut
أَمسىhe has become وَلاand not رَوحُsolace الحَياةِof life تُصيبُهُreaches him
يَوماًon any day وَلاand not لُطفُtenderness الحَبيبِof the loved one يَنالُهُreaches him
He is now where life's solace does not reach him,
He spent the evening when neither the spirit of life strikes him
On any day, nor does a loved one's tenderness reach him.
Nor does the kindness of a loved one reach him
أَمسىhe has become وَحيداًalone موحِشاًdesolate مُتَفَرِّداًsolitary
مُتَشَتِّتاًscattered بَعدَafter الجَميعِtogetherness عِيالُهُhis family
He is now alone, desolate, solitary,
He spent the evening lonely, dreary, isolated
His family scattered after being together.
Scattered after everyone were his dependents
أَمسىhe has become وَقَدand already دَرَسَتhave faded مَحاسِنُthe beauties وَجهِهِof his face
وَتَفَرَّقَتand have fallen apart فيin قَبرِهِhis grave أَوصالُهُhis limbs
Now the beauty of his face has faded,
He spent the evening when the beauty of his face was erased
And his limbs have fallen apart in his grave.
And his limbs in his grave scattered
