جَمَعوا فَما أَكَلوا الَّذي جَمَعوا

جَمَعوا فَما أَكَلوا الَّذي جَمَعوا

وَبَنوا مَساكِنَهُم فَما سَكَنوا

وَبَنوا مَساكِنَهُم فَما سَكَنوا

They gathered, but did not eat what they gathered.

They gathered but enjoyed not what they gathered

And they built their dwellings, but did not live in them.

And built dwellings but did not live in them long

فَكَأَنَّهُم ظُعُنٌ بِها نَزَلوا

فَكَأَنَّهُم ظُعُنٌ بِها نَزَلوا

لَمّا اِستَراحوا ساعَةً ظَعَنوا

لَمّا اِستَراحوا ساعَةً ظَعَنوا

So it was as though they were travelers who alighted there.

It was as though for them the dwellings were but halting places

When they had rested a while, they departed.

Whenever they took rest for an hour, they moved on
