حُبُّlove الرِئاسَةِleadership أَطغىmade tyrannical مَنthose who عَلىupon الأَرضِthe earth

حَتّىuntil بَغىtransgressed بَعضُهُمsome of them فيهاon it عَلىagainst بَعضِothers
The love of power has made those on earth tyrannical,
The love of leadership has overwhelmed those on earth
Until some of them oppressed others there.
Until some of them oppressed others
فَحَسبِيَso sufficient for me اللَهُGod رَبّيmy Lord لاno شَريكَpartner لَهُto Him
إِلَيهِto Him ماwhatever كانَwas مِنof بَسطيmy expansion وَمِنand of قَبضيmy contraction
So God, my Lord, is sufficient for me; He has no partner.
So my Lord God suffices me, He has no partner
To Him belong all my expansion and contraction.
To Him belongs all that was in my fate and destiny
إِنَّindeed القُنوعَcontentment لَزادٌsurely sustenance إِنif رَضيتَyou are satisfied بِهِwith it
كُنتَyou would be الغَنِيَّthe wealthy one وَكُنتَand you would be الوافِرَunimpaired العِرضِhonor
Contentment is surely sustenance; if you are satisfied with it,
Indeed, being content is provision, if you accept it
You would be rich, and your honor would be intact.
You will be wealthy and ample in dignity
ماnot بَينَbetween مَيتٍa dead person وَبَينَand between الحَيِّthe living مِنany صِلَةٍbond
مَنwhoever ماتَdies أَصبَحَcomes to be فيin بَحبوحَةِthe midst الرَفضِabandonment
There is no bond between the dead and the living;
Between the dead and the living there is no kinship
Whoever dies finds himself in the midst of abandonment.
Whoever dies finds himself forsaken and abandoned
الدَهرُtime يُبرِمُنيtwists me tight طَوراًat times وَيَنقُضُنيand unravels me
فَماso what بَقائيmy survival عَلىunder الإِبرامِthe twisting tight وَالنَقضِand the unraveling
Time twists me tight at times and unravels me;
Time treats me harshly again and again
So how long can I survive this twisting and unraveling?
So my existence is not immune to its blows and shocks
ماnot زِلتُI have ceased مُذsince كانَwas فِيَّwithin me الروحُthe spirit مُنتَقِصاًdiminishing

يَموتُdies فيin كُلَّevery يَومٍday مَرَّpassed بيby me بَعضيa part of me
Ever since the spirit was within me, I have been dwindling;
Ever since the soul in me was imperfect
A part of me dies with every day that passes me by.
A part of me dies every day that passes
