العَينُ تَبكي وَالسِنُّ ضاحِكَةٌ

العَينُ تَبكي وَالسِنُّ ضاحِكَةٌ

فَنَحنُ في مَأتَمٍ وَفي عُرسِ

فَنَحنُ في مَأتَمٍ وَفي عُرسِ

The eye weeps, while the tooth smiles.

The eye cries while the tooth smiles

So we are at a funeral and at a wedding.

So we are both in mourning and a wedding

يُضحِكُنا القائِمُ الأَمينُ وَتُب

يُضحِكُنا القائِمُ الأَمينُ وَتُب

كينا وَفاةُ الإِمامِ بِالأَمسِ

كينا وَفاةُ الإِمامِ بِالأَمسِ

The reigning al-Amin makes us laugh, while

The trustee makes us laugh while the passing

the Imam’s death yesterday makes us weep.

Of the Imam yesterday makes us weep
