كُلُّكُم مَيِّتٌ عَلى كُلِّ حالِ
Say to those with plenty and those with little:
Tell those who hoard and those who squander,
All of you will die, whatever your condition.
You all shall die, whatever your condition.

لِ وَلا باقِياً لِكَثرَةِ مالِ
I see no one immortal with little wealth,
I see no everlasting one through paucity of wealth,
nor anyone enduring because of abundant wealth.
Nor one persisting through abundance of goods.
عَجَباًhow astonishing ليat myself وَلِاِغتِراريand at my being beguiled بِدارٍby an abode

I marvel at myself and at my being beguiled by an abode
How strange I and my delusion with a house,
where I shall not remain, nor will it remain for me.
Which I will not inhabit forever, nor will it house me forever.

لَهِ إِلّا تَفَرَّقوا عَن تَقالِ
No people have formed sincere friendships for other than God's sake
No people came together except on something imperishable for them,
without parting in mutual hatred.
Else they dispersed because of their differences.

And whenever you wish to be fed on humiliation,
And whenever you wish to be fed with humiliation,
then seek what the hands of men possess.
Then cast away what is contained in the hands of men.
