أَلا يا بَني آدَمَ اِستَنبِهوا
أَماwere ... not? قَدalready نُهيتُمyou were forbidden فَلَمyet did not تَنتَهواyou desist
أَما قَد نُهيتُم فَلَم تَنتَهوا
O children of Adam, awaken!
Were you not already told to stop, yet you did not desist?
أَياOh عَجَباًhow strange! مِنat ذَويthose endowed with الإِعتِباreflection (continued)
أَيا عَجَباً مِن ذَوي الإِعتِبا
رِcompletion of 'reflection' ماnot مِنهُمُamong them اليَومَtoday مُستَنبِهُone who is awake
رِ ما مِنهُمُ اليَومَ مُستَنبِهُ
Oh, how strange are those capable of reflection:
not one of them is awake today!
طَغىhave transgressed الناسُthe people حَتّىuntil رَأَيتَyou saw اللَبيthe wise man (continued)
طَغى الناسُ حَتّى رَأَيتَ اللَبي
بَcompletion of 'the wise man' فيin غِيِّthe error of طُغيانِهِhis transgression يَعمَهُhe wanders blindly
بَ في غِيِّ طُغيانِهِ يَعمَهُ
People have transgressed so far that you have seen the wise man
wandering blindly in the error of his own transgression.
