قَد صارَ يَحسُدُني مَن كانَ يَعذُرُني

قَد صارَ يَحسُدُني مَن كانَ يَعذُرُني

فيهِ وَيَعذُرُني رَهطي وَأَضدادي

فيهِ وَيَعذُرُني رَهطي وَأَضدادي

Now he envies me who once excused me

Those who used to excuse me now envy me,

for it; and my kin and my adversaries excuse me.

While my people and peers continue to excuse me.

وَالسُقمُ لازَمَني حَتّى أَنِستُ بِهِ

وَالسُقمُ لازَمَني حَتّى أَنِستُ بِهِ

وَفَرَّ مِنّي أَطِبّائي وَعُوّادي

وَفَرَّ مِنّي أَطِبّائي وَعُوّادي

And sickness stayed with me until I grew accustomed to it,

Illness has stayed with me until I've become accustomed to it,

And my physicians and sickbed visitors fled from me.

Yet my doctors and visitors have fled from me.
