صَحاawoke قَلبيmy heart وَراعَand returned إِلَيَّto me عَقليmy reason
صَحا قَلبي وَراعَ إِلَيَّ عَقلي
وَأَقصَرَand ceased باطِليmy idle pursuits وَنَسيتُand I forgot جَهليmy folly
وَأَقصَرَ باطِلي وَنَسيتُ جَهلي
My heart awoke, and my reason returned to me.
My heart is awake, my mind is attentive to me,
And my idle pursuits ceased, and I forgot my folly.
My ignorance is shortened, and I forget my foolishness,
رَأَيتُI saw الغانِياتِthe fair women وَكُنَّand they were صوراًinclined
رَأَيتُ الغانِياتِ وَكُنَّ صوراً
إِلَيَّtoward me صَرَمنَنيthey forsook me وَقَطَعنَand they severed حَبليmy cord
إِلَيَّ صَرَمنَني وَقَطَعنَ حَبلي
I saw the fair women—who had been inclined
I saw the maidens and they were mere images,
Toward me—forsake me and sever my cord.
Who snapped my ropes and cut my tie.
