Many a sage seeks, through his wisdom,

to borrow praise before bestowing his favor.

Yet this is not what was decreed by the

All-Merciful in His justice and mercy.

We seek refuge in God, possessor of majesty and of

honor, from His wrath and retribution.

A man's worth lies only in his good conduct,

evident in him, and the wholesomeness of his sustenance.

A man's worth lies only in the goodness of his ways,

in private and in public, and his fairness in apportioning.
