If anyone has not tasted the savor of longing,

I have indeed come to know its taste in full.

I bestowed my affection on a beloved,

and found that he had deemed it a crime.

O Utb, to your treatment of me I am not

    blind—but love is blind.

By God, you have left my body no

flesh, nor have you left me a bone.

Indeed, whoever does not know how I am wasting away

surely sees its trace upon my face.
