أقُولُI speak وَيَقضِيand decrees اللّهُGod ماwhat هوَHe قاضِيdecreeing،
وإنّيand I am بتَقْديرِwith the decree of الإلهِGod لَرَاضِيindeed content
I speak, and God decrees what He will decree;
I say and God decrees whatever He decrees,
And I am indeed content with God's decree.
And I am content with the decree of God.
أرَىI see الخَلْقَhumankind يَمضِيpasses away واحداًone بعدَafter واحدٍone،
فيَاso, oh ليْتَنِيwould that I أدْرِيI know متَىwhen أنَاI ماضِdeparting
I see humankind passing away, one after another;
I see people passing away one after another,
So, would that I knew when I shall depart!
Oh, would that I knew when I shall pass away.
كأنْas though لَمْnot أَكُنْI was حَيّاًalive إذاwhen احتَثَّhastens غاسِلِيmy corpse-washer
وَأحكَمَand secures دَرْجيmy wrapping فيin ثِيابِgarments of بَيَاضِwhite
As though I had never been alive, when my washer hastens
It will be as if I had never lived when my washer prepares me
And wraps me securely in white garments.
And fits me into my shroud's white garb.
