عجبت لعمر الله من جار جارة

لعرسك محمودٍ إذا الضيف ودَّعَهْ

لعرسك محمودٍ إذا الضيف ودَّعَهْ

I marvel, by God's life, at a neighbor of a female neighbor

I'm amazed at the neighbor of a neighbor

Of your wife, praised when the guest bids him farewell,

At your wedding, Mahmoud, when a guest bids him farewell

وإن كان يلقاه بأجهمِ طلعةٍ

وإن كان يلقاه بأجهمِ طلعةٍ

وينزله في غير رحبٍ ولا سعهْ

وينزله في غير رحبٍ ولا سعهْ

Though he greets him with the grimmest countenance

Even if he meets him with a gloomy face

And lodges him where there is neither space nor room.

And lodges him not in a wide open or spacious place
