How strange! I marvel at one with sight

who trusts the world, though he has seen it.

Surely, a human being will one day suffer a fall

that one ought to beware of.

How many generations once among us have passed away,

and after them we have forgotten their presence.

Forms that were once people like us—

then the One who formed them made them perish.

In the way of God, how heedless we are!

We trust the world—and how treacherous it is!

The world is only like a fleeting shadow.

I praise God: thus He has ordained it.
