كَمhow many غافِلٍa heedless one أَودىbrought ruin بِهِupon him المَوتُdeath
كَم غافِلٍ أَودى بِهِ المَوتُ
لَمdid not يَأخُذِtake الءُهبَةَthe preparation لِلفَوتِfor passing away
لَم يَأخُذِ الءُهبَةَ لِلفَوتِ
How many a heedless one has death carried off,
How many a heedless man has death destroyed,
Who made no preparation for his passing.
Who took no provision against its onslaught.
مَنwhoever لَمdid not تَزُلdepart نِعمَتُهُhis blessings قَبلَهُbefore him
مَن لَم تَزُل نِعمَتُهُ قَبلَهُ
زالَdeparted عَنِfrom النِعمَةِthe blessings بِالمَوتِthrough death
زالَ عَنِ النِعمَةِ بِالمَوتِ
Whoever's blessings did not depart before he did
He whom prosperity preceded hither,
Departed from those blessings through death.
Death parted him from that prosperity.
