Good and evil: one grows, the other dwindles.

For good dwindles, and evil grows.

For I never ask about people whose company I kept,

Possessed of virtues, without being told, 'They have perished.'

Nor do I ask about people I knew,

Possessed of vices, without being told, 'They have multiplied.'

So no child is born to good,

Yet it has children by the daughters of evil.
