مِن تُرابٍ خُلِقتَ لا شَكَّ فيهِ

مِن تُرابٍ خُلِقتَ لا شَكَّ فيهِ

وَغَداً أَنتَ صائِرٌ لِلتُرابِ

وَغَداً أَنتَ صائِرٌ لِلتُرابِ

From dust you were created—there is no doubt of it.

You were created from dust, there is no doubt in that

And tomorrow you will return to dust.

And tomorrow you will return to dust

كَيفَ تَلهو وَأَنتَ مِن حَمَأِ الطي

كَيفَ تَلهو وَأَنتَ مِن حَمَأِ الطي

نِ وَتَمشي وَأَنتَ ذو إِعجابِ

نِ وَتَمشي وَأَنتَ ذو إِعجابِ

How can you amuse yourself, when you are made from clay's black mud,

How can you be heedless when you are from clay

And walk about full of self-admiration?

And walk arrogantly though you are dust

فَخَفِ اللَهَ وَاِترُكِ الزَهوَ وَاِذكُر

فَخَفِ اللَهَ وَاِترُكِ الزَهوَ وَاِذكُر

مَوقِفَ الخاطِئينَ يَومَ الحِسابِ

مَوقِفَ الخاطِئينَ يَومَ الحِسابِ

So fear God, abandon pride, and remember

So fear Allah and leave arrogance and remember

وَسَلِ اللَهِ زُلفَةً وَاِعتِصاماً

وَسَلِ اللَهِ زُلفَةً وَاِعتِصاماً

وَخَلاصاً مِن مُؤلِماتِ العِقابِ

وَخَلاصاً مِن مُؤلِماتِ العِقابِ

And ask God for nearness and refuge,

And ask Allah for closeness, adherence

And deliverance from the torments of punishment.

And salvation from the torments of punishment
