وَإِذاand when الجَبانُthe coward رَأىsees الأَسِنَّةَthe spearheads شُرَّعاًleveled
وَإِذا الجَبانُ رَأى الأَسِنَّةَ شُرَّعاً
عافَhe shuns الثَباتَstanding firm فَإِنbut if تَفَرَّدَhe is alone أَقدَماhe advances
عافَ الثَباتَ فَإِن تَفَرَّدَ أَقدَما
And when the coward sees the spearheads leveled,
He shuns standing firm; but if alone, he advances.
