بَينَ صَفَّين مِنَ قَنىً وَنِصالِ

Death caught him by stealth, after all his cunning,

Death outwitted him after scheming,

Death took him after much deceit

between two battle lines of lances and blades,

Between two ranks of spears and blades,

Between two ranks of spears and swords

في رداءٍ مِنَ الصَفيح ثَقيلٍ

في رداءٍ مِنَ الصَفيح ثَقيلٍ

وَقميصٍ مِنَ الحَديد مُذالِ

وَقميصٍ مِنَ الحَديد مُذالِ

clad in a heavy mantle of steel plate,

In a heavy cloak of metal plates,

In a heavy coat of armor

and a long, trailing shirt of iron.

And a long-hemmed shirt of iron.

And a humiliating shirt of iron
